The Rest, Flow and Spark Mini Curriculum is a neurodiversity-affirming framework that supports early years educators to think differently about regulation, energy and readiness in early childhood.
Rather than treating regulation as something children must achieve calmly, quietly or compliantly, this mini curriculum understands regulation as dynamic, relational, environmental and rhythmic. Children move through different states of rest, flow and activation across the day. None of these states are better or worse than another. Each has a purpose, a value and a need for adult attunement.
This mini curriculum invites educators to shift from managing behaviour to reading energy states, from coercive calm to dynamic regulation and from calm down corners to regulating landscapes.
All frameworks, play patterns, written guidance and visual materials on this site are original work developed by Kerry Murphy and The Neurodiversity Affirming Early Years Collective as part of the Diverse Pathways for Early Childhood project.
